'Sexual predator' kidnapped, sexually assaulted teen, police say

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A judge on Friday increased the bond for a man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Carl Walden, 40, is being held on a $500,000 bond at the Mecklenburg County Jail.

A girl told police Walden forced her into his car at gunpoint on Freedom Drive last week and sexually assaulted her. She also says Walden told her he had been watching her at the bus stop in the mornings and liked to pick up young girls.

The girl was able to jump out of the car and call police. She described the car to police and told officers where the man stopped.

Police found the car and questioned Walden. They say he admitted to picking up the girl and asking her to have sex for money.

A motion filed in criminal court states a search of Walden's home turned up several ski masks and a collection of pornography tapes depicting "brutal rape" of women by men in ski masks.

Walden wears the ski masks for outside work as Estes Express Line.

In the closet, police found several pairs of women's underwear in a jacket pocket. In another pocket, they found a piece of paper entitled "client list" with names of women officers recognized as murder victims of serial killer Henry Lewis Wallace.

Walden claims a gun was never found during a search of his home or his car.

Prosecutors say Walden is also a person of interest in the rape of a 15-year-old in a park near Rogers Street on January 9, 2011. The girl was unable to identify her attacker because he was wearing a ski mask. Prosecutors are waiting on DNA evidence in this case.

Also filed in the motion, allegations that a 17-year-old was offered a ride home from a movie theater in April 2009 by Walden. The victim alleges that Walden took her to his home on Rogers Street and was sexually assaulted. Police say Walden told them he wanted to make out with the girl but she started to feel uncomfortable and dropped her off on Freedom Drive.

In June 2006, Walden was also accused of raping a 30-year-old woman. Walden claims the woman was a prostitute and was mad after he didn't pay her.

The defense asked for a reduction in Walden's bond claiming he's hasn't any convictions for almost 20 years.

A mother to one of Walden's children spoke up in court saying she was flabbergasted by the charges, that Walden had never shown aggression and asked for his release so he could help support her 11-year-old daughter.

If Walden is able to post his bond, the judge says he will be placed on an electronic monitoring device.
